Cranfield School of Management
The UK's leading provider of professional development for current and aspiring NEDs. The Non-executive Directors' Seminar is run 4 times a year, led by Murray Steele. In addition there is the Audit Committee Seminar Course.

Non – Executive Directors’ Seminar

Cranfield’s NED Seminar was developed as a result of practical research into the role of an effective NED undertaken with experienced NED’s.

The Seminar, which has a duration of two days, is essentially in two parts. The first part covers the regulatory knowledge that an NED should know – legal requirements of directors, corporate governance, roles of the audit and remuneration committees and the requirements of institutional investors. The second part focuses on the behavioural aspects of the NED role – boardroom dynamics, the characteristics of effective boards and NEDs and conflict resolution. There is also a specific session on how to find NED positions and an optional session on strategic thinking for NEDs.

The majority of the topics are presented by specialists in their field from organisations such as Hermes, 3i, Ernst & Young and IRS. Case studies are used as opportunities to discuss NED situations.

Past participants have stated that at the end of the Seminar they are much clearer about all aspects of the role.
