Liz Murrall

A Chartered Accountant, Liz has many years’ experience of working in financial services, specifically investment management in that for 18 years until she retired at the end of 2020, she was Director Stewardship and Reporting at the IA, the trade body representing the UK asset management industry. IA members are responsible for the management of approximately £9 trillion of assets internationally and manage holdings amounting to 30% of the domestic equity market.  At the IA, Liz established its position on issues affecting asset managers as institutional investors in companies and is still retained on a consultancy basis.

Liz has held a number of Non-Executive positions, which include six years chairing a board, ten years as an audit committee member and two years as chair of the Financial Reporting Council’s Corporate Reporting Council (a member since 2013).  In 2021, she was appointed one of the inaugural members of the UK Endorsement Board which was set up following the UK’s departure from the EU to endorse and adopt new or amended international accounting standards on behalf of the UK.  The Board also actively influences the development of financial reporting internationally, helping to ensure that the UK’s views are effectively represented in this important area. In addition, in the same year, she was appointed the first chair of the newly formed Public Interest Oversight Board’s Nominations Committee.  The Committee manages the selection of members of the International Auditing and Assurance Standards Board and the International Ethics Standards Board for Accountants. In accordance with the Monitoring Group’s recommendations of July 2020, the aim is to ensure that each Standard Setting Board has  the necessary skills, is diverse and made up of multi-stakeholders.
