Emerging-Market Economies: A Brighter Outlook for 2019?

A number of headwinds – tighter financial conditions, a China slowdown and trade tensions – created a challenging backdrop for emerging markets in 2018. However, economic stress has largely been localised: developing countries with weak economic fundamentals or considerable political instability have come under pressure. But they have left few scars on other emerging-market economies. This is unlikely to change in the near future. This article considers confronting challenges in the global economy.
